Welcome!

Song Copyright, Composition, Royalties, Sound Recording, Riley J Corbin

First things first, I’m so excited to be working with you!

I think you have some awesome potential, and I want to help you reach the next step in your artistic career.

I am so incredibly honored that you want to work with me on this project.

Here are a few things to ensure I get your project started efficiently and that everything ends up in the right place!

If you have any questions about any of this, feel free to email us at riley@rileyjcorbin.com and I’ll be happy to assist!

P.S. Please ensure you’re doing this on a laptop or desktop computer, and there might be some glitches if you view this on a mobile device.

Let’s Get Started!

STEP 1: Watch This Video!

STEP 2: SET UP YOUR ACCOUNT

(if you already have a Slack account this step will look different)

  1. Select “Continue with Email” and enter your email and name

  2. Check your email! You’ll be emailed a confirmation code

  3. Select “Use Slack on Desktop”. We’ll download the apps in a later step

  4. Set your profile picture by clicking on your account icon on the top right, hitting profile, edit, and upload a photo.

  5. Save changes and ignore everything else for now and head to Step 3

In the next step, we’ll get your project channel set up!

STEP 3: FILL OUT PROJECT OVERVIEW

Once the form above is completed, head back to your Slack window. If you are excited, just click here to get back to Slack! You should see that a channel has been created for your specific project and that you’ve been added to it. Once that’s confirmed, go ahead and do the following:

  1. Set a profile picture (if you haven’t already)

  2. Find your project channel. It should be named something similar to #artist-(artist-name). It should also be in bold!

  3. Send a message in the channel and say hi! / Send an emoji / Send a meme. Basically, just let us know that you’re in!

  4. Download the Slack App on your computer

  5. Download the Slack App on your phone. Make sure you have notifications turned on as this is where we’ll be sending you project details, and updates, and basing a majority of project communication.

Once everything’s set up here, I will give you updates on your project here! From here on, all of our project communication will happen via Slack. This ensures that we have all of your details in one place and can work on your project as efficiently as possible!

(It can take up to 24 hours for us to review everything, so if we don’t reply right away once you’re set-up, don’t worry! You can always email me at riley@rileyjcorbin.com to check in or send us a DM via Slack! Feel free to move on to Step 5 in the meantime)

STEP 4: BOOK YOUR VISION CALL

Something I like to do at the beginning of each project is to hop on a call and chat about the brand and vision for your project. I’ve found that doing this helps us get started as quickly as possible and helps us set creative expectations.

STEP 5: SIGN UP FOR A P.R.O.

(Feel free to ignore this step if you’re already registered with a PRO!)

We’ll cover why this is important during our branding and development calls, but a quick overview is that a P.R.O. (or Performance Rights Organization) is the organization responsible for ensuring you are paid for the use of your music. This is usually where the word Royalties is thrown around. It’s an important step!

The reason we do this now and not at the end of your project is because it can take up to 3 weeks for a P.R.O. to process your application, set up your account, and assign relevant creator ID numbers. It’s easier to get this done now than to have to wait until the end of a project!

Lastly, The P.R.O. you sign up for depends on your location - specifically what country your citizenship is in. I’ve included a list of my recommended P.R.O.s for the USA

USA - BMI (free)

If you have any questions about signing up, send us a message via your Slack channel and someone on my team will be happy to assist!

STEP 6: REVIEW THE PROJECT TIMELINE

We’ll go over this on your Vision call, but just so you have this on record for reference,

I’ve put together a quick reference for what you can expect for your project!
